Andy Burnham hasn't got the power to close down that conference, he would have to get a court injunction to stop that, just like anyone else would have to do, and the police and fire service may have power to close venues down in certain circumstances, but they would have to have a very good reason for doing so.

I don't think the Labour controlled Manchester City Council will be complaining about the amount of money that will be spent by delegates and their families in the cafes, pubs, restaurants, theatres, attractions around the city centre!

Nor the railway companies bringing them to the Piccadilly and Victoria Stations.

Only an idiot actually believes the old " Labour controlled council" chestnut!

Don't you know that a "council" is, ultimately, 'controlled' by the council They are sub-divisions of, the UK government and are there to carry out directives based on government policies. Anything that is carried out by a council is 'for' the government
Labour, the political party, control nothing at the moment.
And Andy Burnham has to follow government directives too.
